Description

Hex number plates, also known as Lambo-style plates, have become the latest trend in the automotive world. These custom-shaped plates add a unique and personalized touch to cars, elevating the concept of personalization to new heights. Despite the name “Lambo-Plate” being associated with Lamborghini owners, these plates are not exclusive to just those cars. The hexagonal shape of these plates not only provides a quirky and aesthetic feel but also accentuates the curves and contours of any vehicle, making them eye-catching for all the right reasons.

The design of hex number plates is heavily influenced by Lamborghini cars, featuring sharp and precise angles to create a futuristic appearance. They are a perfect fit for the recess of elegantly designed supercars, enhancing their sophistication with an ideal complement. To further elevate their appeal, 3D and/or 4D raised lettering can be added, adding depth and personality to the overall look. These innovative plates are gaining rapid popularity due to their striking design and contemporary silhouette, setting them apart from traditional number plates.

Precision-cut to accommodate specific registrations, Hex Style Number Plates provide a clean and modern aesthetic that makes vehicles stand out on the road. Not only do they boast exceptional looks, but they also adhere to legal requirements, complying with the BS AU 145e standard for use on public roads. Bespoke Plates, the provider of these remarkable plates, offers various lettering styles for further personalization, allowing car owners to create a one-of-a-kind accessory that reflects their individual style and adds flair to their vehicles. Join the latest trend in automotive customization and experience the captivating appeal of Hex Style Number Plates, which combine aesthetics with compliance and safety to redefine the art of number plate design.

To clear up any confusion, plate modification, whether that be hex plates, or gel plates (3D & 4D) are 100% LEGAL if you stick to the outlined rules from the DVLA.

What Are The Legal Requirements For A Number Plate?

The legal terms that a number plate must adhere to are:

  • be made from a reflective material – for road safety
  • black display characters on a white background (front plate)
  • black display characters on a yellow background (rear plate)
  • not have a background pattern – so as not to distort the readability of your plate
  • be marked to show who supplied the number plate – to assist with thefts and sourcing queries
  • be marked with a British Standard number – this is ‘BS AU 145e’ for plates fitted after 1 September 2021
  • The characters must not be removable or reflective. If your number plates were fitted after 1 September 2021, they must also be a single shade of black.

You can find the full list of legal requirements here.

Aside from show plates, as a certified plate vendor, we at Bespoke Plates pride ourselves on being able to produce road-legal, top-quality plate customisations. Rest assured that if your plating choices pass the legal threshold, we will inform you.

An illegal number plate is one which is incorrectly displayed. It could contain the wrong spacings, font, colours, style, material, and so on.

If your vehicle is displaying illegal or incorrectly displayed number plates, you could be fined up to £1,000 and your vehicle will fail its MOT test.

If you are a first-time offender, police will issue you with a ‘vehicle defect rectification notice’, giving you 14 days to get the plate made legal and get the form stamped by an official supplier, which then gets handed in to your local police station.

It is important to keep your private plate clean: if it gets cloned by criminals, you could receive speeding tickets or parking fines that do not belong to you. If this happens, return the tickets and fines to the issuing authority, and explain what happened, providing any evidence to prove this.

You should also contact the DVLA and the police if your private plate gets cloned, so they can retain this information in their records and help you

As mentioned, hex number plates are fully legal and will pass an MOT if they meet the specifications outlined.
If your personalised plate is, however, made to a different colour, finish, or features different character spacing, you will fail the MOT. We not only ensure that plates meet the required standard, but our high-quality finish also exceeds these regulations as we want to make sure that you never experience issues with your Bespoke Plates product.

Yes, they are not required specifically for any type of road user. Hex plates are purely an optional style to apply to your number plate, they only serve an aesthetic purpose, whilst still retaining the durability and intended function of a standard shape number plate.

You don’t necessarily need a hex plate, but for those considering a unique and eye-catching level of customisation for their number plate, hex plates are a valid option amongst the variety we possess at Bespoke Plates.

There generally isn’t any instance in which a plate would affect your insurance, though it must be noted that different insurers have different stipulations. It would be in your best interest to contact them directly before committing to any modification that could affect your insurance.

The likelihood is that a leased car will have specific specifications that will not allow you to partake of any modification of the vehicle. Though again it is always best to contact your leasing agency directly to enquire.

That being said, it is highly unlikely for a leased car to be allowed its own modifications (unless done by the leaser themselves.) This is because usually after lease agreements are over, someone else will use the vehicle.
